In The Beginning...

Foundational Study in Genesis

In this study of Genesis, at certain points you'll see the actual Hebrew words from the Bible. I've tried to show the correct pronounciation of the Hebrew words, using English characters. The actual Hebrew terms are also included.

For example, in Hebrew, the name of Jesus Christ are the words: Yeshua Ha Mashiach. This is pronounced: Yeh-shoo-uh ha-Mah-shee-ach. (That last -ach sounds a bit like the letter's "och" in "loch". Hear Jesus' Name in Hebrew!

Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

To fully understand God’s Word, one must have a solid foundation in the Word. To know why the Jewish people looked forward to a day when the Messiah would come. To know that all of the Bible verses that Jesus spoke of were from the Old Testament, since there was no New Testament yet written.. That foundation is required in order to fully understand the prophecies concerning Jesus, His Birth, Death and Resurrection. And especially, the prophecies concerning future events, the Millenium, and more.

Starting at the Beginning

The key to understanding the Bible is to know the beginning. It’s like reading a book. You start at the beginning or front of the book, and read through to the end of the book. In so doing, you increase your knowledge and understanding of what is stated at the end. And why it ended the way it did.

The same is true about God’s Word. In order to understand the prophecies given about the coming Messiah, and His future Kingdom; you must have a solid foundation in the Word.

Beginnings

In Genesis, God tells us about our beginnings, about the first blood sacrifice as a covering for sin, and about the Savior who would one day come to the earth, to redeem us all.

Here we learn the Truth about why bad things happen in the world. Why things and people have to die. And, what God has provided for us.

The Book

Our Bible today is divided into two sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. In Matthew 26:28, Jesus said: For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

A testament is the same as a covenant, or a contract. In this case, it is a contract between Jesus and us.

When Jesus was here on the earth, bodily, there was no New Testament. The only Bible was the Old Testament.

Today, if you look at a Jewish Bible, it contains everything that our Old Testament does. The difference between believers in Jesus and the Jewish people is this: the believer knows that Jesus the Messiah has already come, and the Jewish people believe that He hasn’t yet arrived. But they are looking forward to the day that He does. (That day occurs during the Tribulation, or the Time of Jacob’s Trouble. More on that later.)

The beginning of the Bible is Genesis, or The First Book of Moses.

Day 1

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

God created the earth and Light on the First Day, but He didn’t create the sun, moon, planets and stars until the Fourth Day! What this shows is that the light that evolutionists perceive as traveling for millions or billions of years – was actually put in place several days before there was anything there to send that light!

The earth didn’t have any form to it, nor was there anything in it. “Without form” indicates that it was a mass of whatever God had just created. To give you an mental picture of it, just think about a big glob of gelatin suspended or floating in space. “Void” means empty, nothing in it.
